Windows
Download, double-click, and follow the terminal. Requires Python 3.10+.
Download install.batGet the Python v2 language on your machine. It is free, open source, and needs nothing but Python 3.10+. Version 1.1 “Sudbury” includes our own desktop Launcher, offline website builder, production app APIs, a Windows EXE builder, and dependency-free PyHope game engine— no pygame or Electron required.
A complete lightweight creative workspace. Sudbury now includes Home, Code Studio, safe managed Files, New Project, packaged Assets, Games/GPU, Connected Editors, Settings, and Docs tabs. It uses the Python standard library—not Electron, pygame, or a cloud account.
FIRST APP RELEASE
.pyv2 with Ctrl+EnterWindows gets a Desktop shortcut. macOS gets
Python v2 Sudbury.app in ~/Applications.
Linux gets an application-menu entry.
Install the language, Sudbury Launcher, and PyHope game engine together.
The scripts download the latest stable release, install the
pyv2, pyv2-launcher, and pyhope
commands, create the desktop app/shortcut, and run a self-check.
Readable source—no mystery executable.
Download, double-click, and follow the terminal. Requires Python 3.10+.
Download install.batDownload, then run sh install.sh. Uses curl or wget.
Download the source ZIP. No install is required to run from its folder.
Download ZIPpyv2 is the language; pyv2-launcher,
pyhope-studio, or pyhope --studio opens the
desktop workspace; and pyhope is our own dependency-free
game engine with vectors, sprites, tile maps, fixed-step
scenes, DDA ray casting, terminal preview, and web Canvas/WebGL renderers.
It does not install pygame.

Installed with the normal Python v2 installer. Sudbury Build Tools create console or windowed applications with command-line arguments, strict JSON, sandboxed persistent files, atomic saves, bundled read-only assets, and native message/input dialogs.
pyv2 new windows-app "My App"
# add --windowed for a dialog app
pyv2 check My-App
pyv2 doctor
pyv2 build My-App
# Windows:
pyv2 build My-App --native
The project includes a readable build-windows.bat,
PowerShell script, PyInstaller recipe, SHA-256 manifest, VS Code tasks,
and Windows GitHub Actions workflow. Native .exe creation
installs PyInstaller into a build environment on Windows; normal Python
v2 apps and the language runtime remain dependency-free. Other systems
produce the complete kit rather than a mislabeled binary.

Pick your favorite flavor:
git clone https://github.com/gefrus112/pythonv2
cd pythonv2
Updating later is one command: git pull.
# then unzip it and open a terminal inside
cd pythonv2-main
Everything is plain text — the language, the website, the docs.

One requirement: Python 3.10 or newer (python.org/downloads). Python v2 itself has zero dependencies.
# 1. check your Python (macOS ships python3; Linux: apt/dnf install python3)
python3 --version # need 3.10+
# 2. get the language
git clone https://github.com/gefrus112/pythonv2
cd pythonv2
# 3. verify the install
python3 -m pyv2 --version
# Python v2 1.1.0
# 4. run your first program
python3 -m pyv2 examples/hello.pyv2
# Hello, World!
# 2 + 2 = 4
# Option A — plain PowerShell / cmd
py --version # install from python.org if missing
git clone https://github.com/gefrus112/pythonv2
cd pythonv2
py -m pyv2 examples/hello.pyv2
# Option B — WSL (recommended): install Ubuntu from the
# Microsoft Store, then follow the macOS & Linux steps.
Add a shell alias so you can just type pyv2:
# macOS / Linux — add to ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc
alias pyv2='python3 -m pyv2'
# now:
pyv2 examples/fib.pyv2
pyv2 # REPL!

Installed? Nice. Next stop:
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
Is there a pip install? |
Yes—from the cloned folder: python3 -m pip install --user ..
The one-click scripts do this and create the app shortcut for you. |
| Can games use literally zero RAM? | No real app can. PyHope's 9M mode keeps ray work and the large framebuffer on the GPU, avoiding a 9-million-item Python list while still using normal system and GPU memory. |
| Does it replace my Python? | Nope. Python v2 lives in its own folder and runs on top of Python 3. Nothing to uninstall, nothing breaks. |
| Which platforms? | Anything with Python 3.10+: macOS, Linux, Windows, WSL, Raspberry Pi, dev containers, Codespaces. |
| How do I update? | git pull — then run the tests if you're curious:
python3 -m unittest discover -s tests -t . |
